What was it like to grow up before advent of culture of abundance & homogeneity and before the ‘how-to’ parenting’ stormed into our homes and families?

We are ‘gathering wisdom’ from those who grew up in traditional cultures, for today’s global, modern parents and families around the world. We would love to hear from your memories, what was it like to grow up in the culture you grew up in, what was your childhood like, the childhood games, celebrations, important occasions, people, foods, stories that defined the culture you grew up in. Please read the submission guidelines below to submit your story.

Invitation to contribute to the section 'Growing up in...'

We request you to rewind back to your childhood days and share your insights from that reflection, now as global person/ parent (maybe someone who is raising children in a culture different from the one you grew up in). Your contribution in words and/or pictures - mentioning parenting practices, traditional lifestyle, routines and rituals, character values dear to the culture, examples of popular stories, toys and characters indeed will be valuable to aim and to its readers.

Your insights are precious. Please write naturally, as if you are talking to someone, in your our own, natural style. If need be, our editors will team up with you in editing and finalizing your first draft, at a later stage.

Food - landscape in a saucepan, culture on a plate

Food represents nature and culture of a region.

What's on your plate? What does it say about the culture you are in? How has your daily food, food and cooking habits changed over a period of time (from childhood through youth, adulthood, parenthood and if applicable, 'grandparent'hood)?

We invite stories from professionals and home cooks, parents and food lovers from different regions (present or from the past) that paint the landscape and reflect on the culture behind what goes on a plate.

Invitation to contribute to the section 'Food - landscape in a saucepan, culture on a plate.'

We request you to travel back in time and reflect on the food on your plate. How has it changed over a period of time? What has influenced the change? Or has it been largely the same?  How have you preserved the traditional plate?

Your contribution in words and/or pictures will be valuable to aim2020 and to its readers.

Your insights are precious. Please write naturally, as if you are talking to someone, in your our own, natural style. If need be, our editors will team up with you in editing and finalizing your first draft, at a later stage.

Feels Like Home

Close your eyes and think of food and home in one breath. What flashes in your mind?

Food has been much more than just fuel for bodies. Some foods are more special than others, maybe because of some special memories attached to it.

We would like to feature these special memories around the dish that reminds you of home.
